Every city gets two perspectives — the streets and the taps. Here’s everywhere we’ve written about so far, and what’s next.
Hungary
Budapest — June 2026
Six days, two thermal baths, one free concert, nine taprooms and a stolen towel. Ruins, baths, taprooms and the Danube at dusk — this is our most complete city so far.
Start here: Budapest in Six Days — What We Actually Did — the full itinerary in both voices.
The Streets — Olesia
- Margaret Island: We Came for the Baths and Found the Ruins — a 13th-century convent, posing frogs, and a ruined church at dusk
- Two Budapest Baths: One for Families, One for a Spa Day — Palatinus vs Rudas, and how to pick
- Tasting Tokaji in Budapest: Three Bars, Zero Expertise — Hungary’s sweet wine, no expertise required
The Taps — Ian
- Every Taproom We Visited, Compared — nine venues in one reference table: taps, prices, tasters, verdicts
- Skip the Tourist Ruin Bars. Here’s Where Budapest Actually Drinks. — Szimpla Kert, Élesztő and KEG Sörművász
- More Budapest Craft Beer: Mixát Udvar, Rizmajer Beerhouse, and the Time Out Market — a street-music courtyard, a cave bar and a piano bar
- Budapest Craft Beer: HOPS Beer Bar, Beer Brothers and First Craft Beer & BBQ — a Friday night in two very different bars
England
Durham — ongoing, since 2016
Home ground. A Norman cathedral on a hill in a loop of the river, cobbled vennels most visitors walk straight past, three medieval bridges — and the breweries Ian has been drinking at for thirty years.
The Taps — Ian
- Thirty Years and Two Durham Breweries to Work Out I Like Pale Ale — how a one-man brewery in Fowler’s Yard changed what he orders
- The County Durham Brewery Trail, Rated Honestly — five breweries, driven and drunk honestly, including the ones that aren’t for him
- The Durham Craft Beer Trail: Five Stops, Honestly Scored — five stops walked in one afternoon and scored out of ten, including where he disagrees with CAMRA
- Twelve More Durham Pubs Worth Your Time — the rest of the city — bands, cocktails, a balcony over the river, and two he would check first
The Streets — Olesia
- Durham Cathedral and Castle: What to Know Before You Go — free entry, a student ballot for rooms inside a Norman keep, and why you check the calendar before you climb the hill
- Durham’s Old Streets: The Market Place, the Vennels and Three Bridges — a sea god forty kilometres from the sea, a coal baron on a horse, and the alleys nobody walks down
Windsor — multiple visits since 2016
A town better known for its castle. We went for the coronation weekend and came back for the beer — a craft scene smaller than you’d expect and better than you’d hope.
The Streets — Olesia
- Windsor: The Town Behind the Castle — four visits, never once inside the castle
- The Day After the Coronation — the Long Walk, the crowds, and a drone show over the park
The Taps — Ian
- Windsor Taps — The Full Line-Up — all five venues, written up properly
- Windsor Craft Beer, Compared — the quick-reference version: which one, and why
Still to come
North East Coast — Whitby, Saltburn, Staithes: sea fret and seaside ale. Coming 2026.
Newcastle — Victorian grandeur and one of the UK’s best beer cities. Coming 2026.
Southeast Asia
Vietnam & Cambodia — temples, colonial façades and a rising craft beer scene. Next trip.
Events
Royal Ascot — two trips, one race day each time, at England’s most theatrical meeting: fascinators, Pimm’s in the heat, and the King’s carriage rolling past close enough to feel faintly surreal. Both times we spent the day after in Windsor, six miles down the road — which is how that whole section of this site started.
