The map

Most of Budapest’s best craft beer is in a small radius: Districts VII, VIII and IX on the Pest side, with one excellent outlier across the river in Buda (KEG, worth the walk). Click any “↗ Map” link in the table above for directions to each venue.

How to read the verdicts

Must-visit — go out of your way. These are the bars that made the trip.
Worth visiting — good, with caveats. Check the write-up before you go.
Only if nearby — fine for a drink if you’re passing, but not a destination in themselves.

The tasters column matters more than it sounds. A bar that offers samples before you commit is one that’s confident in its beer. It also saves you buying something you won’t enjoy. When it’s listed as “No” — Szimpla — factor that into how you order.
